Love

A teacher is a student,

A lover is a listener,

A prophet watches the direction of the day,

And a singer repeats words from the heart.

How can I teach without learning?

How can I love without listening?

How can I hear wisdom if my voice is not silent?

Will I learn to sing without listening to my heart?

Those by my side depend on me,

While I chase leaves in the wind,

Fixing things around me,

While I break hearts instead.

I look at the stars above me,

While they chase further into the past,

As light becomes a dream,

Within the darkness of my heart.

The only hope is love,

Holding fast to this brilliant truth,

Yet as the organ beats in darkness,

My true heart fades from view.

I will chase the hope of love,

Until my heart ignites those close,

Until my life becomes a blessing,

And brings joy to the heart of God.

Fear

Nothing feels familiar,

The world is an illusion of the past,

Not knowing where days go,

The light is fading fast.

Purpose has departed the person,

No longer living in a farce to survive,

Waking each day in a cycle,

Barely feeling alive.

We no longer have our others,

Distant and hidden behind masks,

For help God gave us each other,

For alone no one can last.

Sleep has departed the many,

Our blanket is the darkness of night,

Haunted by dreams and worries,

Praying for the coming of light.

A bad dream is short lived for all,

For we all know we will wake.

When reality is like a nightmare,

It is more than anyone can take.

In the night let me lift your eyes,

So that you may look at the stars,

Like them we are still together,

You are never alone by far.

Family is the strength of living,

Though past or present or to be,

Love creates families beyond blood,

Here online a family can be.

Through the heart we remain as one,

For love’s bond draws us near,

More powerful than sadness or death,

Love is letting go of fear.

Reflections of Compassion

There are times we all see moments that are so beautiful that it overwhelms our ability to vent beautiful emotions in words, and then the tears begin to come. I wrote this based on one of those moments.  They form vision which carries us through the darkness.

The world creates reflections,

From the light in our hearts.

Shining out a love of life,

We see colors in the sky.

From the vision of our hearts,

We find magic moments.

Not having to look hard,

They come to seek us out.

Such a fire is contagious,

It can be spread with a smile.

Something that is caught with a glance,

Then spreads out like the stars.

Such is the song of life,

Which is the bond between the living.

In these notes between our heartbeats,

No one ever truly dies.

Time is an illusion,

Just like distance and goodbyes.

Dispelling fears of tomorrow,

Is how I learned to fly.

The Darkness of Pain

The road of life contains,

Places where we loose,

Places where we hurt,

Places where we cry.

Behind every face,

Are stories of loss,

Stories of tragedy,

Where pain lies.

We cross paths for a reason,

For souls to connect,

For souls to learn,

So our spirits can fly.

From the darkness of pain,

We can join hands to heal,

Join hearts to resolve,

For there is no harm to try.

For God gave us each other,

In all times of need,

With true hearts around us,

Which is how he stays nearby.

The world spins in darkness,

And out of control,

While fear that surrounds us,

Creates eternal night.

Yet with the power of love,

The gift of God’s heart,

The sun will again rise,

As we walk towards the light.

The Forgotten Girl

For Gabby

Some hearts are born,

To be lights of the Earth,

Bringing love and joy,

Into the darkest corners.

She brought a warm breeze,

Over a windswept bay,

And a ray of sunshine,

Within the cloudiest day.

Everyone who knew her,

Was touched by her joy,

Such a contagious blessing,

Spreading quickly to others,

For one smile to many,

Spreads to many more,

Unlocking life’s mystery,

For the heart is the door.

Where the song of life led,

She would follow with her heart,

And now from our lives,

She can never depart.

For love between souls,

Is the unbreakable string,

So when we close our eyes,

We can still hear her sing.

The Choice

Confusion has become the new norm,

Surrounded by the threat of war,

Sense has departed from reality,

While lands are submerged by flood,

Scorched by fires,

Shaken by quakes,

And rearranged by storms.

The familiar has become forgotten,

As if separated by glass,

Where we can see what we knew,

While walking in a strange world,

Trying to find the path,

Anything we once knew,

Feeling alone.

The unchanging has not changed,

For we carry it in our hearts,

A power much older than time,

Which nothing can overcome,

The force of love,

Tied to faith,

And unending.

The world is saved through souls,

As it always has been,

One heart at a time,

With fire igniting fire,

A conquering love,

Where the seemingly weak,

Do the impossible.

And so I awaken this morning,

Knowing God is still here,

Beauty is in the world,

And love will never die,

The song of life,

A song unending,

Which I choose to sing.

A Kiss on the Cobblestones

Where worlds do collide,

Between the old and the new,

Between the evening rains,

And the morning dew.

The young and the old,

Upon evening strolls,

Hold their hands and smile,

Upon the cobblestones.

With her I stroll and my mind is blown,

With a simple kiss on the cobblestones.

How many souls,

Have walked these streets?

How many times,

Did their lips meet?

How many stories,

Created and told,

Within these towns,

Upon the cobblestones.

With her I stroll and my mind is blown,

With a simple kiss on the cobblestones.

Energy can not,

Be created or destroyed,

The energy of love,

Is just shared and deployed,

The love of centuries,

I now share and own,

With a simple kiss,

Upon the cobblestones.

With her I stroll and my mind is blown,

With a simple kiss on the cobblestones.

Where you now stand,

Where you will be,

This simple truth,

Now you must see,

Sharing laughter and love,

Is your choice alone,

This truth I can see,

Upon the cobblestones.

With her I stroll and my mind is blown,

With a simple kiss on the cobblestones.

A Poem of Pain

Where windswept thoughts abound,

The heart is left open and insecure,

Dry tears flowing without a trail,

Voices silenced as if behind glass,

Lives in motion too soon pass.

Sorrow clears the mind like a wave,

Covering us beneath the waters,

Bringing the choice to hold my breath,

Yet pain is the mark of being alive,

Pushing us forward so we may thrive.

The sun questions each morning,

If we have the faith to rise,

Or to simply wait for breath to end,

When the gift of life is love,

And we are held by God above.

Love is strength to see past the eyes,

Which may be blinded by tears,

Yet the heart can see forever,

Which of course defies the mind,

With only the heart truth we find.

With no proof what lies outside,

We have the faith to daily go,

Faith is knowledge of things unseen,

So we may know that God is always there,

In spite of sorrow or pain there is love to share.

Faded Windows

Eyes peer through faded windows,

Looking forward from the past,

Names and faces forgotten,

From love and lives begotten,

Each one was a child and a story,

Each life a miracle in God’s glory,

The people in the pictures are long gone,

Along with those who kept the memories.

History is a discipline of the heart,

For it is comprised of endeavors of love,

In the creation of families and kingdoms,

For passion brings dreams to reality,

Neither dreams nor love ever fades,

Though kingdoms may crumble into ruin,

Though children may forget their elders,

The song of life around us never forgets.

I can see this light through faded pictures,

I can feel it in the forgotten park,

I can hear it in the voice of the old man,

Who stopped here to look at the trees,

Who stops here to feed the birds,

Who stopped here to remember the truth,

Though many pass by without seeing,

The truth of beauty is around us and free.

Pull your faded pictures into the light,

Though you may not know their names,

Look at the stories within their eyes,

Think of the kingdoms they did build,

Think of the families they once loved,

Look at the beauty of truth around you,

Live in that light which they embraced,

Which can be seen through faded windows.

The Eternal Touch

For Monica

“Though not here today we will feel her always.”

Time is an illusion,

For the heart never stops beating.

The day seems to begin and end,

Yet the sun is always shining.

A song has a first note and a last,

Yet songs keep playing in our minds.

And one who has touched with the heart,

Touches our souls forever.

She was a child full of joy,

Who grew into a woman of love.

She was a learner of knowledge and wisdom,

Who became teacher in things she would say.

Yet these so called memories of circumstance,

In reality have no beginning or end.

For anything wrought with love,

Touches our souls forever.

I knew her in her elder years,

Yet my heart knows her smile of youth.

Words spoken have the substance of breezes,

Yet I can still hear the sound of her voice.

In love there is no goodbye,

So my heart says hello with each sunrise.

Because one who reaches to others,

Touches our souls forever.

I am thankful for the present of days,

For I could share this gift with her.

I am thankful for opportunities of life,

For she is now part of who I am,

I am thankful for the power of words,

For they became her palette of colors.

The times that we shared on Earth,

Touched my soul forever.

The Forgotten Park

White dresses moving gently in the breeze,

Black suits and walking canes,

Children playing games under the sun,

Families sitting on blankets having fun,

While carriages roll on cobbled streets.

Wooden benches by a gentle stream,

Beneath the spreading oak trees,

Where people come to gather rest,

After hard days of doing their best,

Surrounded bye sounds of busy streets.

The years have passed along with people,

For the park has seen much brighter days,

There are elderly couples holding withered hands,

Share the warmth of love from past plans,

Seeing fewer friends with each passing day.

Today a stranger walks beneath the trees,

Feeling forgotten hearts of long ago,

Names remembered upon distant stones,

Yet voices are heard where spirits roam,

For love is the unending fire of life.

The Spark

If in physics there is no such thing as size,

Then in love there is no such thing as limits,

For the heart knows no boundaries,

As our souls fly unfettered by dimensions,

Exploring the impossibility of possible,

Bonding with other souls with a smile,

Where an instant translates to forever.

Where the eyes can see reality,

And our fingers sense by touch,

Our souls are on a stage,

Creating the play by free will,

Imaginations tempered by the heart,

For what is forged by the fire of love,

Has a place of beauty in eternity.

So it is with a smile I will greet you,

To unlock the magic of your hearts,

One heart is the flint and the other a stone,

For by such sparks between us we ignite flame,

Unlocking the secrets of eternity,

Dispelling the illusions of barriers,

As there is no greater force than love.

I’m Still Here

Life brought pain and trials.

I don’t care.

Life brought scars and battles.

I don’t care.

The reason for life is loving.

Having joy is a choice.

Though I may not have anything else,

I still have my heart and my voice.

Through the love and the fear,

Through the joy and the tears,

The truth of the heart overcomes,

And I am still here.

I may win or I may lose.

I don’t care.

To run the race is what I choose.

The road is there.

There is joy along the way.

In every heart I find.

With all the treasures they do hold,

Life is truly kind.

Through the love and the fear,

Through the joy and the tears,

The truth of the heart overcomes,

And I am still here.

They may say that I have gone.

I don’t care.

You will know that they are wrong.

So I don’t care.

The tether of love will always bind.

Through your heart you will find.

My song of love will never end,

And in your heart I am there.

Through the love and the fear,

Through the joy and the tears,

The truth of the heart overcomes,

And I am still here.

The Nightbirde

For the singer known as Nightbirde, who stole our hearts winning the golden buzzer on AGT.  She said do not wait for life to get easy in order to be happy.  That is something I believe in!

The night bird comes between 12 and 4,

In the darkest of night,

The night bird sings in silence,

She does not require the light.

She does not wait for joy to come,

To find her reason to sing,

She carries the joy within her heart,

And brings it to everything.

The night bird sings within the darkness,

Even though the world is asleep,

The sound brings dreams of life and love,

To those who slumber deep.

I wait in the night to hear her joy,

This is the gift God would bring,

She carries his love within her heart,

The reason why she sings.

No pain or hardship changes truth,

Beneath the skies above,

Through pain or joy or life or death,

There is truly only love.

When the Nightbirde sings for people,

Whose hearts are open wide,

They see beyond all fear or pain,

Receiving the joy she has inside.

Life Within Life

This elephant was carved from a single piece of stone, with her baby inside, as a gift to me in India.

Thoughts are mysterious,

Reality before birth,

Energy of emotions,

Feelings in colors,

A doorway into life.

A door swings both ways,

Ideas travel to the world,

Yet our hearts can travel through,

To places we have never been,

Experiencing things beyond our grasp.

Places which we have never been,

Music which we have never heard,

Become worlds we can explore,

New shores where we can stand,

Through the doorway of words.

We take hold of the familiar,

The branching of a tree,

The soaring of a bird,

To make analogies to share,

What no eyes have never seen.

Time becomes an illusion,

In the continuum of words,

The past and the future join,

For only the moment is real,

As souls meet across the ages.

Words become our gift,

Igniting fire in other hearts,

Removing boundaries of imagination,

Extending vision of the heart,

We create life within life.

The Heart

Feelings can not be written,

Yet they cover much more than words.

Moments frightening to enter,

Without knowing what to say.

Yet love and compassion transcend,

What the mind can not share in sound.

Love is the flow from God,

The seal of the unbreakable bond.

They stand together in love,

Facing the pain like fire.

They stand against the darkness of fear,

For hearts shine the light of truth.

There is the love of life,

There are joyous smiles.

Nothing has changed in reality,

Each day is a gift from God.

When our souls sail dark waters,

Such hearts are beacons of light.

Guiding us through the shoals,

To shore on the darkest of nights.

My heart has witnessed trials,

Across the darkest seas.

Such souls being me through the storms,

To meet the morning’s gentle breeze.

The Boy Who Could Play

Forgotten and forlorn,

Music sitting in silence,

Restored and revived,

Ready to play again.

The call went out,

To find a new heart,

To play the ivory keys,

And receive a new start.

When there is love in a family,

There is music in hearts,

Their son heard the song,

And his soul did fly.

So they searched for a piano,

Which to their hearts was dear,

Answering the parents prayers,

So their son’s music they would hear.

The boy studied and learned,

Until the classics could be,

Flowing through his hands,

With great beauty.

That was a few years ago,

And they wrote us to say,

How thankful they are,

And how wonderfully he plays.

A Woman’s Heart

I see the power of the waves,

Rearranging the shore,

Ocean tides on the rise,

By the power of the moon,

I have seen the storm surge,

Split the Banks in two,

But that does not compare,

To the power of a woman’s heart.

I have heard the storm winds,

Rumbling the walls,

Trees falling over,

At the hands of the wind,

I have seen the lightening,

Scorching silent behind the clouds,

Yet nothing can compare,

To the power of a woman’s heart.

The winds and the rains,

Wear away at the mountains,

Gently changing the ground,

From rocks into soil,

So the patient plant seeds,

Can slowly rise under the sun,

Yet nothing can compare,

To the patience of a woman’s heart.

Strength and patience,

Are manifestations of love,

Yet for her heart to feel love,

Exposes it to pain,

Yet if any man knows,

The love I have come to know,

To know the heart of a woman,

Is nothing but gain.

Drawn by the Waters

Ocean spirits,

As varied as light,

Through the sunlit days,

Or the moonlight,

Shining like diamonds,

Glittering on the waves,

Each with a story,

With something to say,

For life is a song,

Which never does end,

With each of our voices,

Shining through choices,

Drawn to the waters,

Which know no limits,

Unending horizons,

Never ending heartbeats,

With no beginning and no end,

Joined in life through love,

For there is no goodbye,

Hearts never part,

And the waves carry music,

Of each of their spirits,

Of each of their lives,

Singing with mine,

In the song of life.

Superficial

The waves wash in with soothing touch,

Flowing back with reddened stain,

The first sight to opened eyes,

While thoughts roll through his mind.

Taking to the open sea,

Providing a living to his family,

Trading time away for better life,

As the years roll like the waves.

The waves keep rolling in,

While the red stained water spreads,

As the rolling clouds catch his eyes,

Passing by with the faces he has seen.

So many lives upon other shores,

So many conversations with voices,

So many actions of the heart,

Seen in red reflections on the waters.

His hair is much whiter now,

The years passed like days,

Wondering what his life has meant,

While lying by the waters.

A splintered beam in his side,

From when he smashed through the railing,

Monster wave of darkness,

Sending him to the waters below.

No life is superficial,

Though not heralded in the papers,

With no name chiseled in stone,

For unknown eyes to see.

Every single person he met,

Every single person he loved,

Becomes many hearts transformed,

To become all that they could be.

Gentle waves caress the sand,

Where the ocean did deposit him,

Pain flowing red to sea from him,

While his eyes drift towards sleep.

His soulmate's soul is beside him,

Taken so many years before,

Her face becoming clearer,

As his love he goes to meet.

A Sunset for the Blind

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

We stand at the edge of forever,

The sound of rolling waves fill our ears,

The waters roll in with possibility,

While the sky rolls back to reveal the stars,

And the sun descends to the ocean,

Prior to the sleep of night,

Yet we stand here together,

In silent contemplation,

Where as I am in awe of the beauty,

You have lived your life without sight.

How can I describe such a wonder?

For one who does not know color?

One who has never seen light?

Not knowing red,

Yellow,

Or the deepest blue,

Being born without vision,

Living life through touch,

Listening to the magic,

While color is strange to you.

I will say the sunset is music,

Written in notes of silence,

Which fills the soul with magic,

Like an energizing breath,

Embracing the heart with warmth,

Lifting the spirit upon wings,

While the warmth on your face,

Fuels the fire in your heart,

Embracing all who stop to listen,

While nature sings.

One may say my words are fanciful,

The stuff uttered by fools,

Yet the seagulls are singing,

To prove them all wrong,

For they see the warm beauty,

From the love in God's heart,

Confirming in our ears,

What the spirit knows as truth,

While the sun lays down to sleep,

Forever circling back to the start.

Reason to Fight

For Kim

A battle does not wait until you are rested,

A challenge does not wait until you are ready,

The sunrise reveals confrontation,

Yet love is worth fighting for,

And you are one who loves much,

Knowing nature,

Knowing friendship,

Knowing faith,

And knowing love.

Love flows to us from the heart of God,

So where doe these challenges come from?

Why do some things simply happen?

Anger is energy wasted,

Despair is disregarding God,

When the only thing to consider,

Is the free will choice to fight,

And the things to love and share,

In the miraculous gift of life.

We are brought to this stage through birth,

Choosing our lines and part to play,

Yet we are given power to create good,

And these things are added to Heaven,

Every day that you create from your heart,

Makes Heaven a more wonderful place,

And you know that nothing created of love,

Can have a limited life,

Just as our lives are truly forever.

Nothing in life is guaranteed,

Except the indomitable power of love,

And that the choice of living in joy,

Brings love to the hearts around you,

So may this miracle of love surround you,

Adding more days where you create joy,

Bringing delight to the heart of God,

Because your life on this stage of the world,

Is a delight and a blessing to all.

The Power of Love

You chose to stay young and beautiful,

Through the power of the heart,

With the love you do impart,

For it is joy that keeps us young.

You share that with your husband,

Adding hearts with your children,

People know you as a true friend,

This has been true from the start.

There are only hellos,

There is no goodbye,

In the seeking of meaning,

There is only love.

Anyone can smile on good days,

On bad days it's a choice of the heart,

For when joy you choose to impart,

God brings it back to you.

Facing a scare of health,

No one knows why these things do come,

Yet it is holding fast to love,

Which takes us back to the start.

There are only hellos,

There is no goodbye,

In the knowing of meaning,

There is only love.

We can not choose the things that happen,

We can only choose what we will do,

Holding fast to what is true,

We give others strength and hope.

Prayer and love are good energy,

Which only grows when shared,

Causing miracles which open our eyes,

To the magic we all once knew.

There are only hellos,

There is no goodbye,

In the living of meaning,

There is only love.

May you feel this hope,

May you know this joy

Through all that God employs,

Being our father in heaven above.

Fear and pain become illusions,

Illness a mere distraction,

For the truth of reality,

Is that there is only love.

Beside the Waters

Their hearts met on the ocean,

Far from any shore,

Their hearts met one another,

Like neither met before,

Young man to see the world,

Young beauty returning to family,

The met upon the ocean,

Out across the ocean,

They met upon the ocean,

Away from any shore.

They shared words of discovery,

Learning about each other,

Secret places they each adored,

Finding one they knew together,

In a small Italian village,

A cafe beside the sea,

With tables beside the waters,

Right beside the waters,

Together beside those waters,

Is where they wished to be.

Then at night the storm did come,

Upon the Mediterranean,

Howling winds upon the ship,

Waters rising up inside,

The two clung together in darkness,

Till the waters pulled them apart,

He shouted, “I will find you by the waters,

The cafe beside the waters!

Go to our place beside the waters!”

Were his final words.

There were survivors of the shipwreck,

Some who made it to the village,

Some of us who heard those lovers,

To that cafe we did go,

Beneath the clouded moonlight,

Between the seaside tables,

A ghostly beauty stood awaiting,

By the railing she was waiting,

But when the moonlight struck her waiting,

We could see her no more.

Having been shaken to the soul,

We resolved to go back together,

Those of us with courage,

On a black and moonless night,

We approached that cafe railing,

To see the shadow of a young man,

To his love he was calling,

Across the waters calling,

We ran to where he was calling,

And he vanished from our sight.

It has been many years since,

I have heard that cafe is closed now,

And the locals still hear those lovers,

On the quietist hours of night,

In the moonlight she still calls him,

On the moonless nights he cries out,

“Oh, come to me I am waiting!”

In the moonlight she calls waiting,

In they same place they are waiting,

Beside the waters of tragic love.

Bard of Life

For Corine

To the eyes she might seem alone,

But you must see through your heart,

For her joy is just a magnet,

And it has been such from the start.

She has been a friend to many,

Both a mother and a wife,

Though her hands are wrinkled now,

Her eyes are full of life.

A strong woman of faith,

Through her life she always prayed.

To face all with God is her motto,

She still follows this every day.

She has much to share with others,

And each day there is even more,

With joy she keeps the path of life lit,

While her heart remains an open door.

When her husband closed his eyes,

She turned her eyes to the open road,

As host to many in campgrounds,

To travelers both young and old.

At home she is still playing the part,

Sharing stories of life like a bard,

Following a determined trail of joy,

A choice which should never be hard.

She will never run out of tales,

Though she is a gal who is just 92,

Some say she may talk too much,

I could never think that is true.

With such a love of life,

There is always more to share,

A change of course is not easy,

But you can do so if you dare!
