The Distance of Beauty

I just wrote this contemplating how beauty is easily found out of reach, yet hardest to find in the mirror.

A face is the life of beauty,

Each curve adding character,

Every detail a thing to remember,

Skin of warmth and light,

Eyes giving joy as a gift,

Yet in the mirror it is just a face.

We long for what is distant,

For people drive past castles to work,

Being only dark things on the hills,

Yet to those far away they are magic,

And to visit makes fairytales come true,

As magic and mystery fill the heart.

We see palm trees and surfboards in film,

From a west coast where movies are made,

To visit seems only a dream,

To walk in a place on the screen,

Yet people work and live there each day,

Longing to be somewhere else.

The truth is a clear reflection,

Beauty surrounds us like the air,

To see it requires vision of the heart,

For the eyes can be blinded by pain,

Yet the soul remains open to truth,

So we can see what is already there.

When light is seen through the heart,

A soul walks in constant amazement,

Life becomes magic to share,

With beauty as close as our skin,

Hearing silent colors of the world,

So we can share the magic with a smile.
