A Sunset for the Blind

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

We stand at the edge of forever,

The sound of rolling waves fill our ears,

The waters roll in with possibility,

While the sky rolls back to reveal the stars,

And the sun descends to the ocean,

Prior to the sleep of night,

Yet we stand here together,

In silent contemplation,

Where as I am in awe of the beauty,

You have lived your life without sight.

How can I describe such a wonder?

For one who does not know color?

One who has never seen light?

Not knowing red,

Yellow,

Or the deepest blue,

Being born without vision,

Living life through touch,

Listening to the magic,

While color is strange to you.

I will say the sunset is music,

Written in notes of silence,

Which fills the soul with magic,

Like an energizing breath,

Embracing the heart with warmth,

Lifting the spirit upon wings,

While the warmth on your face,

Fuels the fire in your heart,

Embracing all who stop to listen,

While nature sings.

One may say my words are fanciful,

The stuff uttered by fools,

Yet the seagulls are singing,

To prove them all wrong,

For they see the warm beauty,

From the love in God's heart,

Confirming in our ears,

What the spirit knows as truth,

While the sun lays down to sleep,

Forever circling back to the start.
