Superficial

The waves wash in with soothing touch,

Flowing back with reddened stain,

The first sight to opened eyes,

While thoughts roll through his mind.

Taking to the open sea,

Providing a living to his family,

Trading time away for better life,

As the years roll like the waves.

The waves keep rolling in,

While the red stained water spreads,

As the rolling clouds catch his eyes,

Passing by with the faces he has seen.

So many lives upon other shores,

So many conversations with voices,

So many actions of the heart,

Seen in red reflections on the waters.

His hair is much whiter now,

The years passed like days,

Wondering what his life has meant,

While lying by the waters.

A splintered beam in his side,

From when he smashed through the railing,

Monster wave of darkness,

Sending him to the waters below.

No life is superficial,

Though not heralded in the papers,

With no name chiseled in stone,

For unknown eyes to see.

Every single person he met,

Every single person he loved,

Becomes many hearts transformed,

To become all that they could be.

Gentle waves caress the sand,

Where the ocean did deposit him,

Pain flowing red to sea from him,

While his eyes drift towards sleep.

His soulmate's soul is beside him,

Taken so many years before,

Her face becoming clearer,

As his love he goes to meet.
