The Circle of Circles

This poem was inspired by the artwork of Diego Montano, who we met at the Latin America festival near Casa Guadalajara in old town San Diego this weekend.  He described the patterns, showing rainy, seasons, farmers, planting their corn, the stages of life leading towards rebirth in eternal life, and the eye of God, showing life in harmony. That is what inspired this poem which I sent to him and his father, who we thanked for passing his art on to his son.

The raindrop falls to Earth,

Bringing fruit through the roots,

Giving food to the living,

Exhaling waters to the air,

To return to the clouds.

The sun gifts it’s warmth,

Which is absorbed by the leaves,

Nurturing the living,

Whom look back towards the sun,

With fire in their eyes.

So it is here we are born,

Becoming children of culture,

Who become adults of meaning,

Passing from ages unto sleep,

Awakening in God’s eternal life.

And the greatest circle is love,

As our hearts awaken with fire,

Reaching out for embrace,

Finding strength in each other,

Encircled by God’s heart.
