The Beauty of Sorrow

The picture is mine, as well as the poem.  This is not a eulogy, nor was it written for a specific person.  After listening to the recent NASA release of the "sound" of a black hole, I was overcome with one of those image/feelings about the nature of sorrow.  This is not some kind of negative darkness to avoid, it is merely a part of life that happens.  If one believes that life has the power to bring beauty through all things, then beauty can also be found through sorrow.

Sorrow is tied with loss,

The fear of losing something,

The pain of losing someone,

Or something being destroyed.

Energy cannot be created,

Energy cannot be destroyed,

All matter is made of energy,

So what can be truly lost?

Sorrow is like a fine wine,

Dry with a touch of sweetness,

For if a wine is to be born,

The grape must truly die.

Yet death stands defeated by love,

Like with Nathaniel Batts and Kickowanna,

Whose spirits roam joined forever,

On the shores of hearts which remember.

Sorrow is tied with pain,

And yet pain is a part of love,

When we risk joining with another heart,

Feeling beauty evoke tears instead of words.

All life that we see around us,

Is but a chapter in an eternal song,

No one likes to see a good chapter end,

Yet we turn the page for what is to come.

The Earth is but a temporal stage,

Where we bring to life matters of the heart,

For anything that is created through love,

Finds place within the realm of eternity.

The “sounds” of a black hole are haunting,

Like the last cries of mass before oblivion,

Yet the mass is transformed into energy,

To be born as matter again anew.

And so the beauty of sorrow is love,

With love being our gift from God,

For with love the stars were created,

And by the stars we find our way home.
