(In memory of Charlie Kirk.)
When he was at the crossroad,
Between a boy and a man,
He realized in this place,
Every person must stand.
In the quest to find himself,
And what he would uphold as true,
He found his purpose in life,
In helping many young people through.
He reached a turning point.
“Come let us reason together” (Isaiah 1:18),
Was the only request he gave,
For in deep reflection on our values,
We lose assumptions that we have made.
Through analysis we gain perspective,
We find our place to stand in life,
He would lead young people there,
Without abrasiveness or strife.
Towards their turning point.
He had a heart of great compassion,
Giving him patience for every day,
For some were more than difficult,
When he replied to things they would say.
Yet with his wise gift of perspective,
No one could leave him quite the same,
With new values for truth imparted,
They left better than how they came.
To reach their turning point.
While leading a life of love,
At his voice someone took aim,
Leaving all of us in silence,
With relentless shock and pain.
He was demonized for disagreeing,
That was his only crime,
His silence raised the voice of millions,
And through us his light will shine.
This is the turning point.
