Chasing the Sunset

Did you chase the sunset?
Did it get away?
Did you catch the sunset?
What did it say?

Sweet whispers to the heart,
Of the Song of Life,
Bringing peaceful evening,
At the end of a day of light.

No sunset is the same,
Every night a work of art,
Even my dog would watch,
In evening breeze it stole his heart.

Do not miss a sunset,
No matter what you do,
Never miss a sunset,
They are painted just for you.

The Promise

For the family of Max Lenail

 Our souls are connected,

Through tethers of love,

Withstanding time and trial,

Becoming triumphs of humanity,

So when one heart is taken,

Many hearts feel the loss,

A light taken away from life,

Against the darkness of night.

The night provides a backdrop,

For all the stars to shine,

Reminding us of souls,

From the past and the future,

For each soul is eternal,

Each laugh is unique,

And no voice can be silenced,

When love never dies.

He loved the smell of nature,

He loved the songs of the wind,

Where the song of life was heard,

His heart found joy and peace,

So his voice is in our hearts,

And his laughter is in the wind,

With these glimpses of eternal life,

Our souls can be at ease.

All days have a sunrise,

All days have a sunset,

Yet love is a creation,

With no beginning and no end,

And in the celebration of life,

As his love shines in your hearts,

Hold tight unto the promise,

Of being together once again.

Greatness

An unknown name,

On a nameless street,

You stand as a face in the crowd.

Wondering where life leads,

While pursuing daily needs,

Thinking chances are seldom allowed.

As a child we all dreamed,

Of successes that seemed,

Only an education away.

While others find success,

And we think they are the best,

For so many know their names.

Yet one simple thing,

Can change a life’s path,

Then that life can change the world.

Because you showed a kindness,

While others passed by,

In a seemingly cold dark world.

Just one simple action,

A spark lighting fire,

Makes the flame of love grow bright.

And so lives do shine,

Guiding others through the dark,

Like stars against the blanket of night.

I may never change the world,

My name will not be in lights,

But I delight in changing one heart.

That one heart can change the world,

That one heart can bless the many,

And your small act created the start.

The Quest Fulfilled

On the road to forever,

The earth meets the sky,

Upon the shoulders of mountains,

Under the eyes of the stars.

The giants of the forests,

Stand tall as silent guardians,

As souls seeking solace,

Find fulfillment amidst the snow.

The cold kindles warmth,

As this beauty is shared between souls,

In a playground for the heart,

God gives us a taste of Heaven.

May the stars guide your quest,

As they guided me to this place,

And may your heart rekindle with hope,

As your soul touches God’s face.

The Eternal Timepiece

 A chain has a purpose,

A Watch has a maker,

For time has beginning and end.

Yet from old hands to young,

From her hands to his,

She gives it to him once again.

Her age is but miles,

Her wrinkles cruel illusion,

For the fire in her eyes is still young.

Time is an illusion,

As all life is collusion,

In his heart her life had begun.

The watch became a key,

Until her image he did see,

Her beauty holding him fast.

To so long ago,

He knew he must go,

In finding his love at last.

For reality bends,

Around the force of love,

Drawing two souls together.

The impossible happens,

And miracles unfold,

Between souls joined by this tether.

Their hands came together,

Their hearts did join,

He laid the watch in her hand.

When he was torn away,

She held the watch every day,

Praying to see him again.

Somewhere in time,

This timepiece has joined,

Two hearts in love without end.

As it loops through time,

This serves to remind,

Love has no beginning or end.

The Truth of Beauty

 A woman appears in nature,

Yet she lives in the hearts around her.

As a butterfly touches flowers to bring fruit,

She brings the spark of love to other hearts.

This light shines through her eyes and smile,

For she is the personification of love in life.

Such light and beauty can not be hidden,

Not even by injury or illness.

For if you block the light of any candle,

The room will still glow from its flame.

Love extends life in the world,

For the soul finds reason to fight with joy.

Weeks can turn into months,

As months can even become years.

Love is the fire which needs no fuel,

For this fire flows to us from the heart of God.

A woman’s eyes see the illusions of age,

Yet the heart sees her as forever young.

The eyes can be blinded though the heart sees all,

And time is just an illusion,

For her heart beats in beauty forever,

And souls around her sing the song of life.

The Man of Many Hats

For Marvin, a man who freely gave his joy to many, at the entrance to the Los Coches Wal Mart in El Cajon, CA

Out to the East by Los Coches,

There is a store along the way,

Where stood a man by the door,

Who had a hat for every day.

He was an older man named Marvin,

Who had seen his life with style,

So in his thanks for the gift of time,

He sought to give us each a smile.

He was hard to catch to give a word,

There was always someone there,

If that person had eight or eighty years,

He would always show he cared.

For folks who move to quick to notice,

He had ways to catch their eyes,

With costumes and hats of colors,

He knew when and how to be sly.

They looked up from their phones to his eyes,

And he greeted them with a smile,

Yet the gift he gave was not for naught,

It would last more than quite a while.

I enjoyed his words when we would speak,

I am sure that he enjoyed mine,

He became a part of each of us,

And he used his gift of time.

I wish I could have seen him once again,

To say thanks for all he gives,

But I know he can hear this as I write,

For in our hearts he lives.
