The Messenger

A friend and college named Ron had an unusual experience yesterday.
He passed a car with a white pigeon on the hood.  When he extended
his arm, the pigeon came to him in peace.  Not in the best of shape, Ron
took the pigeon in noting he had a phone number tied to his foot identifying
him as a carrier pigeon.  Ron called the number and reunited this beautiful
creature with its owner.  Carrier pigeons are messengers, and messenger is
the direct translation of the word angel in scripture.  I was inspired to write this.

Disheveled and unraveled,
The messenger came to him,
Landing in the heat,
Setting upon the street,
Distraught,
Distressed,
Despaired.

He extended his heart,
And the messenger came,
Accepting his comfort,
Setting upon his soul,
Resting,
Relieved,
Restored.

The messenger communed,
A message without words,
A meeting without warning,
Composed,
Configured,
Conveyed.

The messenger departed,
Back to his sender,
With mission completed,
In joy,
In peace,
In love.

For angels are messengers,
The least among us can be one,
As the scriptures tell us,
Be ready,
Be willing,
Receive.
