The Bad Penny

I swore that I would not write today!
Yet at work there is a young gal, recently engaged,
who spoke of a tough fight.  It suddenly came to me that
focusing on such circumstance instead of another person's
soul is like chasing a rolling penny past a $100 bill.  My wife
loved the concept when I shared it with her, and all I can say to
that is her putting up with me should qualify her for sainthood.

Circumstance is like a penny,
Tarnished and defaced,
Yet always coming up,
In any pocket you own.
And yet we all go through it,
Perhaps you never knew it,
But in going through hard times,
You are never alone.

When that penny falls,
It is tempting to chase it,
As it rolls across the ground,
The chase is quite a thrill.
Yet in chasing a penny,
You may pass true treasures,
As you run right by,
A hundred dollar bill.

That is ridiculous,
You read and you think,
Yet this always happens,
With argument and strife.
For we strive with each other,
About meaningless things,
And forget that nothing is ever,
More meaningful than life.

So if you look upon another,
Through long eyelashes,
Or your eyes see out from,
A strong face full of hair,
You look into a soul,
That is unlike no other,
Speak words from the heart,
Show that you know and care.

Heaven Walks Among Us

The Bible says we can never know if you run into an angel on the street.
I can not imagine how many we could already have met.

Your hand is on my shoulder,
When I laugh or when I cry,
And through all things,
You are with me till the end,
When the stars embrace my vision,
I look up into the sky,
Thankful for love,
You are my life friend.

Though pain may overcome us,
We stand together strong,
Knowing the strength,
True love will employ,
The fires of trials burn down,
Things which can not last,
But they leave untouched,
The strength of love and joy.

A homeless man confirmed me,
The truth in which we stand,
A resurrected Jesus,
With life’s keys in His hand,
God does not forsake us,
In things small or great,
Giving life with love on Earth,
And through Heaven’s gate.

True

I,
See truth,
In your eyes,
Window to the soul,
Bringing me joy,
To share,
Now.

You,
See me,
Upon this path,
Seeing clear the truth,
Through the heart,
To share,
Here.

Joy,
Is never,
A brief feeling,
Joy is a pure strength,
Heart felt fire,
Drawn from,
Love.

When,
Within trials,
Strength has left,
You restore my faith,
Through your joy,
And love,
True.

The Wisdom of Love

Wisdom is without words,
The perspective of a blank page,
Silence of the morning song,
When words are painted on the soul.
And feelings are colored on the heart.

A heart beats near to us,
And sounds for a time,
Yet we mourn the silence,
When we hear the beat no more,
In the silence we feel the truth,
That hearts beat forever in Heaven.

For Heaven is not a distant place,
It is closer than a touch,
Heaven is warmer than a tear,
Bringing truth within the promise,
Heaven joins hearts in love.

Lakeside

To find time in places,
Find places outside time,
Where the year does not matter,
And surrounded by the latter,
You feel past and present,
In the place where you stand,
On a main street of old,
Made of western wood,
Where families own the shops,
And the food smells good,
Where the old wooden church,
Has stood the test of time,
Watching story after story,
Pass on the street below,
Lives within a song,
A song within motion,
In a town that formed a gate,
A gateway to the west,
For they came by train,
Unto the Castle House,
They set off by morning,
To set upon their land,
Raising food from the earth,
By the sweat of their hands,
I came with my family,
In our quest for life,
Where the sun sets anew,
With each passing day,
And we found new promise,
Amidst time forged ways,
Hearing Sir and Mam,
The person that I am,
Seeing change as growth,
Building strong on what is good,
Walking by the lake side,
Knowing what I should,
Under the pepper trees,
Where water birds do play,
Mixing past souls with the present,
Where Lakeside Inn once stood,
In a town amidst the hills,
Is where I have my fill,
With peace and joy I live,
With my family by my side,
For this place to us did give,
And its called Lakeside.

Beyond Belief - For Easter 2014

Easter is here,
And the birds do sing,
Their voices convey,
An impossible thing,
As lives lead to death,
And the day unto night,
That new birth occurs,
For our souls to take flight.
The flowers give hint,
They come back to bloom,
The mind will accept,
If the heart gives it room,
That the end is not here,
When we lay down and die,
Our true home lies beyond,
Where are souls seek to fly,
For God’s son set the tone,
When He died here on Earth,
As he rose from the dead,
To give proof of new birth,
But that just can’t be done!
Our sharp minds think and say,
But perhaps we can’t see,
In the clear light of day,
For our cells form of atoms,
And those of energy,
What science truly knows,
Is that can not cease to be,
Energy can only change,
In appearance and form,
But what is of the truth,
Is that we don’t know the norm,
For if energy is from God,
And God truly is,
Why would he not,
Protect what is His?
He gave us His Son,
And he gave us the way,
And so we CELEBRATE,
On this Easter Day!

A Prayer of Words

I am still uncertain about a title for this, though I wanted to share it.  With one close friend recently cleared of a cancer threat, and another young friend introduced to this same threat, I was not in the mood for writing.  I did not feel God laid a thought or message on my heart as I usually do.  I did not see a title in mind as usual.  I simply felt emotional.  Without any clear idea, I just started writing.  Then the stanzas started getting shorter, so I decided to try a new style.

Words fail me,
I do not use them.
Circumstances come,
I do not choose them.
My wings are for flight,
Through storms may blow,
The cold may grow,
The stars will show me,
Where to go.

Souls fly near me,
Some hearts do hear me,
Travelers of life,
Each adding music,
On different pats,
Within the song,
Around me shining,
They are the stars.

I do not wonder,
On what I write,
Though I thank God,
Who sends the words.
And when I see,
A star grow brighter,
The words hit home.

For life is magic,
Escaping definition,
Begging recognition,
For the gift it is,
Growing beauty,
And so we live.

Life matter is energy,
Our thoughts add to it,
Heaven grows from our hearts,
Imagination’s source is passion,
And life’s meaning grows clear.

When time brings changes,
Changes may bring fear,
The land speaks comfort to me,
That the song remains the same.

And again with our souls,
As we add life to life,
The building blocks are words.

May my words build you,
In strength and inspiration.

The meaning of life is love.

The Messenger

A friend and college named Ron had an unusual experience yesterday.
He passed a car with a white pigeon on the hood.  When he extended
his arm, the pigeon came to him in peace.  Not in the best of shape, Ron
took the pigeon in noting he had a phone number tied to his foot identifying
him as a carrier pigeon.  Ron called the number and reunited this beautiful
creature with its owner.  Carrier pigeons are messengers, and messenger is
the direct translation of the word angel in scripture.  I was inspired to write this.

Disheveled and unraveled,
The messenger came to him,
Landing in the heat,
Setting upon the street,
Distraught,
Distressed,
Despaired.

He extended his heart,
And the messenger came,
Accepting his comfort,
Setting upon his soul,
Resting,
Relieved,
Restored.

The messenger communed,
A message without words,
A meeting without warning,
Composed,
Configured,
Conveyed.

The messenger departed,
Back to his sender,
With mission completed,
In joy,
In peace,
In love.

For angels are messengers,
The least among us can be one,
As the scriptures tell us,
Be ready,
Be willing,
Receive.

The Heart and the Head

In times of difficulty I have often felt emotion with
no guiding thought on an idea to write.  At this time
I have been greatly concerned with the health of a friend,
and the mother of another friend has just passed away.  In
a morning break at work with no one to talk with I
picked up a pen.  This is what I wrote.

Where are dreams bred?
Is it in the heart or head?
The head knows how birds fly,
And why bells can ring,
The heart knows joy,
And reasons why to sing.

The head can see little,
Giving reasons for doubt,
And doubts lead to fears,
Blocking answers out,
The heart knows things unseen,
And the freedom to answer anything.

All things are unreal,
Being born from nowhere,
Electrons holding hands,
They are mostly thin air.

Yet all things important,
And all which is true,
Have one thing in common,
They all come from you.
